Municipal Park

The beautifully landscaped municipal park is situated east of city center, underneath high school and elementary school. Waldkirchen's green lung can be reached within walking distance of the city center. This park was newly created in 2007 in the course of the regional flower festival.

Start your tour at the so-called" Tannendom", a 10-meter high fir tree tower. It's the park's landmark. Do you dare to enter inside the tensed up junglegym and climb up to the top? From on high you'll get a fantastic view of the overall horticultural setting.

The water stairs lead you to the center of the park: it's a small pond with cosy enclosures emitting sound waves to chill out. A boardwalk takes you around the pond. Directly above there's the so-called "place in the sun" and a granite boat from Ischia which is heading for it. This ensemble emblematizes the twinning between Waldkirchen and the community of Serrara Fontana in Italy. Oversized glass flowers guide the way to the so-called "Vogelguckhaus", an observation tower like a crow's nest and made of willow branches. This living structure offers a view to the unspoilt natural landmark called "Gsteinet". Passing the water playground "Goldstrand" (means gold beach) you will reach the area called "fashion and gardens", which bring big city atmosphere to Waldkirchen.

Especially your children will get excited about the playground "bodenlos", that means bottomless space, whereas you will be attracted by the "Wolkensteg", a paraphrase for runway into the clouds, where you are invited to a relaxing rest on Bavaria's longest bench. There you can enjoy a view of the perennial herbs and summer flower beds and you can look upward the mountain ridge of the Bavarian Forest.

By the way, the municipal park is starting point of a walking trail through Waldkirchen (a distance of 4 km/2.5 miles), leading to all sites that are well worth seeing. Get your flyer here.
