On the occasion of the forthcoming act of being granted the privileges of a town, the market town council decided in spring 1872 to ask the city of Landshut to get twinned with Waldkirchen. Shortly after, the City of Landshut complied with our request. The local city council there unanimously voted to become sister city on the above mentioned occasion.

The celebrations regarding the granting of town privileges took place on 16th September, 1972. The city of Landshut as sister city donated a precious golden chain of office, which since then has been worn by each governing mayor of Waldkirchen on special occasions. For a long time, there have always been ties of friendship with the city of Landshut, which was expressed at last on the occasion of the Regional Flower Show in Waldkirchen: Landshut donated several trees and promoted our project "Himmelsstangen": these are kinds of logs which have been decorated and positioned all around the Flower Show area.
